There was in Tiberia a story of a dead man. Such a story.. Blessed is the Lord, when I wanted to return home from Jerusalem to Tiberia I had no money -- what did I go to Jerusalem for, for money? So I entered a synagogue and there was a porch there and this dead man was sitting there, one who had gone on, a corpse, yes. So I saw it was possible to talk with him, I said to him, "Why are you so sad? What is this with you, it is forbidden to be like that!"
Then he said to me: "Go away from me, go away from me, do not talk to me, you cannot help me, go away from me! I want to die, I wait each moment to emit the soul, what do you want from me, go, go!"
He did not want to hear, he was a Lithuaniite. Anyway, I said to him: "Tell me what is the matter with you."
Then he said: "What will happen if I tell, can you make a screw? I am missing a screw. I am deaf, I cannot hear and I have no livelihood. What can be done, I have no option, only to kill myself." But he feared Heaven and did not want to do so.
He had a relative with some shop, the relative said to him. "Sit in the store, if someone wants a kilogram of sugar, give him a kilogram of sugar."
Well, he sat in the store and someone entered who wanted a kilogram of sugar, so he went to bring him the sugar and he forgot what the buyer wanted. He did not know if it was salt, or sugar, and he was embarrassed to go back and ask the man what he wanted. Anyway, he had no choice, so he went and asked the buyer: "What do you want?"
"We want sugar."
He went to bring sugar, and by the time he went to bring the sugar, he forgot again what he had to bring.
Someone came and said to him: "Give me bread," so he brought him salted fish. "What is this? I want bread, not salted fish!"
"Yes, well, no problem, I will bring bread." Well, he went and brought sugar. He forgot; he did not know what to give.
He asked me: "Is there hope for a thing like this? I have no idea – only to annihilate myself. I will perform a mitzvah and I will annihilate myself. Leave me alone, do not speak with me."
He did not want to hear, he said: "Go away from me. You want to help me, but it is impossible, do you have screws?"
Then I said to him: "I do not have screws, but I have a such a Tzaddik that you can be for yourself a complete cure through him!"
I said to him: "I have such a Tzaddik that he can help you!"
He implored he: "Leave me alone, I want to die, leave me alone. I wait and await for when my soul goes out, and you are not letting me. What do you want from me, do you want that I should go to Tiberia?"
Anyway, I did not leave him alone, I spoke to him all the time and he heard this, until he began to receive and believe in this, that he would recover, and he began to think, "Perhaps this is good.." and he began to dance!
It was a miracle, how he came with me to Tiberia, we walked together to Tiberia and I brought home instead of money – I brought a guest from Jerusalem, and he needed to eat. Well, I brought him to my home, this was my "money" that I brought from Jerusalem, and this was not just for one day, he was a long time in my house, and my wife said to me: "What will we do, I have no bread for the children, how will we give him to eat?"
Anyway, he was by me a long time and ate and drank. We sang on Shabbat Kodesh all night, we danced and rejoiced. And all Tiberia already knew that I brought a guest, they heard our dances, of my "dead" one. And in the end he recovered completely! I brought him to Tiberia and in Tiberia he got a complete recovery, such a recovery.. like once in a generation!
Oy, yoy, yoy, how good it is that I tell this, anyway, may he remain in the world. I do not know
if the "dead" one is alive, if he is in this world or in the coming world, now I do not know where he is...
This story became famous in Tiberia, the "dead" one was my neighbor and the he told everyone on Rosh Hashanah in Jerusalem the work that I did. He had a recovery and he married after a good match and he had children and he had a good livelihood. I knew him and his wife and his children.
This story is like the Simple One from the Story Tales. The "dead" one just received my words, and he became the biggest agent in Jerusalem of one of the biggest companies in the Land. He was a faithful worker, so the salesman of the company said to the owner: "A faithful man like this I have never seen in my life," so the owner said. "I need a man like this."
So he took him and he became the biggest agent in Jerusalem, the head agent!
I do not exaggerate, that it how it was. He himself laughed at this, how could such a thing happen in the world? I went out on the balcony, saw a dead man, was very frightened, began to talk with the dead man: "What is this with you!" It was a miracle how he listened to me, I thought: "There is nothing to say to him," neither did I perceive in him that he would recover, I said to him, "Perhaps," but he was so given over; I spoke to him with all my heart and it entered his heart. The words had effect and he received my words and he got well, yes.
He asked me: "Do you have clothes?"
The Tzaddik has it all!
I said to him: "I know of such a Tzaddik that you will have healing," he received this – and healing happened. He was really like dead. He was by me along time and waited and awaited every day for when the angel of death would come, but he did not want to come. And I danced with him in my house. How does such a thing happen? This was such an awesome thing that I did not believe that he would be willing to listen.
Oy, we had in Tiberia a such a Shabbat Simchah, all of Tiberia was afraid of the dead man I brought, I brought a dead man to Tiberia, I brought him to life...
He saw all the "honor" [i.e., lack of honor] I had in Tiberia, he was a Lithuaniite and he believed in the Lithuaniite rabbis, but he was very strong and mighty in Rabbeinu and did not listen to all the Mitnagdim and to all of Tiberia, so all Tiberia knew I brought another Breslev chasid. It was I and Rabbi Israel Karduner, now I brought another one. I gave him every time another book to learn, I gave him the book Likutei Moharan, I told him to sit and look at this with all his heart, and all his days he said many Likutei Tefilot and he became a tzaddik through Likutei Tefilot.
Likutei Tefilot makes tzaddikim!
Likutei Tefilot, the world does not know and does not want to know, they think, "What, Likutei Tefilot? What about the Gemara.." (:^>
